Visiting state legislators in Jefferson City
JCGA advocates for a strong and prosperous business climate and issues that are important to our business members. In order to grow, Jefferson County must be able to compete for jobs and business in the St. Louis and surrounding county areas, in our region and globally, which means identifying and addressing economic and regulatory barriers. Advocating for public policies essential to new and sustained quality economic development requires leadership. Hearing from and working with our elected officials at all levels help keep the needs of businesses for pro-business policies and a positive business environment in the forefront.
JCGA plays a leadership role
State of the County Breakfast
Each January or February JCGA convenes between 200-300 community leaders to hear the County Executive deliver the State of the County Address. Prior year accomplishments and priorities and finances for the coming year are highlighted. The location for the State of the County Breakfast rotates among Jefferson County Public School Districts. The 2016 event was hosted by DeSoto Public School District No. 73.
Meet the Candidates
Candidates Forum (during election years)
JCGA hosts/provides the opportunity for the community to meet the candidates seeking elective office and hear firsthand about issues impacting our towns, state, and nation. The public is encouraged to attend these candidate forums, hosted by Jefferson College.
State Capitol/Legislative Visits
Interested JCGA members trek to the state capitol in Jefferson City while the legislature is in session to meet with House and Senate leaders from our areas, see state government in action, and learn about and encourage support for legislation that meets the economic and growth needs of Jefferson County.
Legislative Wrap-Up/Summary Breakfast
Each May elected representatives at the local, county, state and federal levels provide a wrap-up of their legislative sessions and activities.
Elected officials join the membership of JCGA for a dinner and social celebrating the holiday season.
The JCGA does not directly endorse specific candidates or parties but supports the legislative process by providing public forums and events on issues of importance to growth.
